They're the team captains and the cheerleaders that everyone envies. You don't like they way they attract all that attention, the way they flaunt their popularity, the way they are admired even though they have stepped on so many others to get where they are and yet you still wish you were them. It seems like they have it all - attention, respect, recognition and a future paved with good luck.
Then there are the rebels. The gang bosses, the tough guys, the girls that will beat you up for just looking at you wrong. They have power, right? Even the police have to watch their backs around these guys. But where is their power to find a happy home, to sleep peacefully at night, to overcome their addictions and hatred? Their power is limited to violence, and at the end of the day, it turns them into the weakest, least productive people in the world.
Admit it: we all want power, we want attention, but too many grab for the fastest and most common ways to get it. We end up doing what we hate just to get out of the rut of an empty, meaningless life. There is only one way to become truly powerful in this world.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you." Acts 1:8
Its true that the power of this world can give us a feeling of being invincible on one hand, and then rob us of our soul on the other. But real power, is given by the Holy Spirit, and the more we use it, the better and happier our life becomes.
Would you like to have to power to turn negative situations around to bless you? Would you like the power to destroy your addictions, hatred and depression? How about the power to heal, even incurable wounds? Power to change the stubbornness of your own heart, and then begin changing others? The real power is given by God, through the Holy Spirit. Do you want power to make better decisions, choices, to know where to go, what to do, when to do, to overcome evil, sin and DEATH?.
